-it’s winter break and you guys are probably catching up on the sleep that you missed out during finals week. most of us are back home and eating actual food that doesn’t involve a vending machine or a microwave. regardless, we’re all taking a break from the freezing, if not boiling hot, studios of big bend.

-sooo, why don’t you guys share what you’ve been doing for the past weeks. things that you’ll miss once school starts. projects you’re dying to start? something or someone new? anything!

-have a safe ride, walk, flight, swim back to LCAD and hopefully the new students won’t be as weird as the prior ones. kidding.

“…there is no excuse to at least take one or two design courses, so you can at least find out if your heart really is in the skill. If you find out that design is not your life’s calling, at least you didn’t waste any more time and money than you had to.”

I really believe in design education and encourage aspiring designers to take at least a few courses or a year-long program to see if that’s what you really want to do. It’s really useful especially if you want to work at a design firm. As a graphic designer, I especially would like for aspiring designers to go beyond their Photoshop/Illustrator wizardry and take the time to learn how to properly choose typefaces, create a layout with thought to its composition and hierarchy (and create multi-page documents in InDesign, not in Photoshop), and learn the process of creating a logo (because it’s not as simple as it sounds).
